Marialuisa Tadei |
Divini Vultus |
|||
|
Marialuisa Tadei is an Italian-born
sculptor who has shown widely at leading museums, galleries and art fairs
in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America, including at this
year¡¯s Venice Biennale and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Increasingly, too,
she is undertaking public commissions, often working in her trademark
hand-cut mosaic, such as a recent 18ft-high landmark sculpture for Coral
Springs, Florida. Her pieces spring from her desire to bridge the gap
between today¡¯s global consumer culture and the past¡¯s understanding of
the importance of spirituality and aesthetics. ¡°My work,¡± she says, ¡°aims
to establish a dialogue between the seen and unseen aspect of our selves.
By establishing a connection with the viewer, I hope to make the sublime
visible.¡± Tadei also works in materials such as steel, glass and bronze,
and in unusual ones such as feathers. She lives in London and New York.
